Kick Start The New Year: 21-Day Fast

Why not kick start the New Year in a 21-Day Fast?

Corporate Fast – – click here to listen to audio.

Calling a “FAST” is something you and your entire congregation can participate in together as you seek the will of God.

FASTING is one of the most significant Spiritual Disciplines that leads to greater intimacy with God.

Jentezen Franklin, the Senior Pastor of Free Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia starts EVERY year off with a 21-Day FAST with his congregation.  Together they seek the will of God for themselves and for their church.

Franklin has written several ‘best selling,’ easy to read books on the subject of Fasting.

Some interesting nuggets from the video by Jentezen Franklin on Fasting include:

  • He never made a major decision without first seeking the Lord in prayer and fasting
  • He was called to ministry during a fast
  • He received his first million dollar donation to his ministry while on a fast
  • The growth of his ministry in terms of increased attendance is a direct result of fasting
  • Increased finances through donations is a direct result of fasting
  • Increased salvations is a direct result of fasting
  • Great testimonies and reports of: healings, family restoration and breakthroughs in people’s marriages also a direct result of fasting.

Jentezen Franklin’s latest book is called, “The Fasting Edge.”  It takes you through all the facts about fasting including the why’s, how-to’s, when’s, etc.

At a time when church membership and attendance is shrinking, I think we all could use a kick start in the right direction.

If you have never done a ‘Corporate’ Fast, this is the greatest time to start.  Pick up one of Jentezen Franklin’s books on fasting.

You can also look at some of his teaching videos on Youtube and get some ideas on how to approach the subject with your congregation.

May God bless your churches this New Year as we all Seek First the Kingdom of God.

Have you ever started the New Year off with a Corporate Fast? If not, do you think this is something you would consider implementing?

  1. This is a powerful subject, the DISCIPLINE of FASTING. Especially when you seem to be stuck in a situation or condition. One you may have been struggling with trying to break free.. For some it is for a sense of direction, not knowing which way to go. It helps you to remove your self from your usual way of doing things.
It seems to SUSPEND TIME, for the duration of the fast.
It feels like you are putting everything on hold. This gives you the time to allow the Lord to give you the wisdom / strength. Especially after you have experienced severe hits from the enemy. You are not where you use to be. And where you are is draining you. Leaving you confused and perplexed. The DISCIPLINE OF FASTING, will clear your mind. There is a song I can see clearly now the rain is gone.

Fasting is like the caterpillar that goes into its cocoon. There is a process that takes place, that produces a TRANSFORMATION. Something new and unique has taken place. The very nature has been changed. Go into this DISCIPLINE with the expectation that you will come out a New Creature. The things that use to be a struggle are no longer an issue. Just like the butterfly that use to be a caterpillar, it is no longer controlled by the mind set of the previous nature. Able to move and do things that where impossible before. Even the people who in time past you may wanted to use your size 7’s. no longer frustrates you.

    • , I don’t know many believers who gtaehr together and encourage each other to be strong. Peter and John astonished people with their boldness, and yet when they got our of jail, they prayed for more boldness! The body of Christ needs once again to lay hands on each other, praying for boldness and strength. This morning, prior to picking up my repaired car, I read Mark Batterson’s chapter – word of choice for God: IncomparableHe quotes Ephesians 1:18-19: the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. We sprinkle a little bit of prayer and the Bible and Church on our lives and hope. Hope is good, but expectation is better. When you believe in God’s incomparable power, your hopes change to great expectations. AMEN Mark! Finally, running out of time, I finished with Andy Stanley – word of choice for God: Certain The question for us is, will we maintain our faith when we can’t see His hand? Even though Scripture doesn’t change anything in our circumstances, it does allow us to embrae uncertainty knowing that God is still in control, that although life is uncertain, and the world may seem uncertain, God is not. You may wonder about the last words I read before heading out to PAY for this massive repair; THIS is fabulous: He still has your family, your personal finances, and all the things that are worrying you to death in his hands. He still has your whole world in His hands. Of that you can be certain. My friends, GOD IS REAL and He LOVES us!
